Bayberry Root

Bayberry Root

Derived from the bark of the bayberry root, this small evergreen shrub grows throughout a wide portion of the Eastern and Southern United States. It can grow up to 8 feet tall and its leaves release an intense, pleasant fragrance that is also a natural and safe insect repellent for dogs.

Bayberry is an effective astringent and was originally used to treat canker sores, boils and skin ulcers as it will dry up and protect exposed membranes. Popularly used today in the treatment of diarrhea, bleeding gums and sore throat, it is also an extremely effective antibiotic agent for fighting infection and in the prevention of colds and flu, a necessary immune booster as smokers may be particularly vulnerable to viruses upon quitting.
