This shrub or small tree can grow up to 20 feet and is found in the moist soils of wetland areas near lakes, swamps, wet woodlands, and canals in Europe and North America.
It bears showy white flowers in late spring and berries in late summer and fall. The fruit is sweet and juicy and can be eaten alone or used in recipes for pies, jellies and wine. The flowers and berries of this tree contain flavonoids which strengthen and maintain the immune and respiratory systems.
