Piper Longum

Piper Longum

Also known as Long Pepper, Dried Catkins or Pippali, this climbing shrub is indigenous to India and Sri Lanka. The entire plant is leafy and aromatic, with flowers that grow on solitary spikes. The fruit it bears is shiny, with a blackish green color and is featured in Northern and Eastern African dishes which benefit from the hot and sweet flavor sensations.

Piper Longum is a powerful stimulant for both the digestive and respiratory systems and has been shown to have a rejuvenating effect on the lungs - a balm against the effects of smoking. It also contains piperine, shown to encourage the release of metabolic energy to aid weight loss and help the system to better absorb nutrients.
